WEEK OF April 4:

Plainfield South (6-2-1) won 1-0 over Rosary on a Kelsey Pruett goal off a feed from Kailyn Haski.

Lincoln-Way East (2-5-1) posted a pair of wins on Thursday and Friday, first in a 10-0 shutout over Thornton and next a 5-4 comeback win over Peotone. 10 different Griffins scored against Thornwood, with Erin Mangia netting a goal to go with 5 assists on the day. On Friday, with 28 minutes remaining in the 2nd half and trailing 4-0, the Griffins scored 5 unanswered goals to pull of the comeback against previously unbeaten Peotone.  Erin Mangia had 1 goal 2 assists, Kelsey Kurey had 2 goals and 1 assist and the game winner with 1:50 remaining.  Stacey Sons and Jessica Bicek also scored in the win.

Neuqua Valley improved to 8-0 with weekend wins at the Hazelwood (MO) Showcase. A 7-1 win on Friday over Pattonville (MO) featured a pair of goals each from Gianna Dal Pozzo and Allie McBride and a goal each Meghan Kelley, Morgan Mulcahy, and Megan Oyster. Alexa Wilde, Shannon Pimmel, and Zoey Goralski had assists in the win. In Saturday's 6-1 win over Parkway South (MO) the Wildcats got a pair of goals from Wilde and one each from Goralski, Mulcahy, Noelle Leary, and Talise Romain, with Oyster chipping in a pair of assists. Hope D'Addario also assisted in the win.

Hinsdale South (3-3) bounced back from a loss to Lane Tech with a pair of Pepsi Showdown wins on Thursday and Saturday. The Hornets won 3-1 over Oswego on a goal and and two assists from Jamie Walker, a goal and an assist from Jackie Belmonte, and a goal from Brittney Noble. Hornets coach Pat Wolf: "We put in a good team effort to win our first game in this year's PepsiShowdown. The only blemish on an all-around good effort was an Oswego  free kick goal that came within two minutes of the Hornets second tally. Carolanne Pilch played inspired defense at the stopper postion, thwarting numerous Oswego rushes and then begining our counters."

The Hornets followed with a 2-0 win over Stevenson on Saturday, with Walker chipping in another goals and assist in the game. Maggie Nicosia also scored and Julie Vezzani added an assist in the win, with Vanessa Niestrom earning the Hornets' first shutout of the season. Wolf: "We got solid defense by Stacy Ruzicka, with an open-net, goal saving stop by defender Mary Ladd who came from the right back to the left post and blocked a Stevenson shot. Jamie Walker had a strong game commanding the ball and setting up her teammates."

Lincoln-Way West (2-4) lost 1-0 to Bradley-Bourbonnais on Saturday, but coach Jeff Theiss was anything but disappointed in his girls' effort. "I'm very proud of the way the girls played today," he said. "Bradley punched one in early in the second half but we never quit. On a hot day with only two subs, the girls left everything on the field."

Carmel (3-2-1) won 3-0 over East Suburban Catholic Conference rival Marist in Mundelein on Saturday, getting two goals from Shannon Jung and one from Sarah McHugh.

Downers Grove South (8-1-1) won 4-0 over Westmont Saturday, with Stephanie Zurales scoring twice for the Mustangs.

Oswego East (4-3-1) won its first game of the Lake Park Tournament with a 2-0 win over Morton High School on Saturday.  OEHS outshot Morton 22-3 with the Wolves getting goals from Carli Schalker and Julianna DePoister, both unassisted.  The Wolves play their next two tournament games the next two Saturdays. Hannah Gargrave and Cynthia De La Torre split time in net for the Wolves, each making two saves in the win.

Elk Grove (5-1-1) beat Libertyville 2-1 in overtime on Thursday, in second-round Pepsi play. Michelle Calmeyn scored on a feed from Jocelyn Potratz to give the Grens a 1-0 halftime lead. Calmeyn then scored the game-winner on an assist from Katie Naughton in overtime and Melissa Solorio got the win in net.

Plainfield North (6-1-1) bounced back from its first loss of the year on Tuesday (1-0 to Huntley) with a 6-2 win over St. Ignatius in second-round play of the Pepsi Showdown on Thursday. Katie Cox had a hat-trick and an assist in the win, Callie O'Donnell had a goal and an assist, and the Tigers also got goals from Ashley Handwork and Madi Harris. Heather Handwork chipped in two assists while Nikki Auble and Kaela Leskovar had an assist apiece.

Oak Park and River Forest (5-1) won its fifth consecutive game and its first Pepsi Showdown contest with a 1-0 win over visiting Young of Chicago on Thursday. Emily Gullo sent a shot under the crossbar with 12 minutes left for the game-winner off a Shelby Cozzette feed. Darcy Hargadon made two huge saves in the first half, one coming out on a through ball that she smothered on the top of the 18 and the second coming on a sure-fire goal she deflected wide of the frame.

Chicago Christian improved to 5-2 and got its second Suburban Christian Conference win of the week over Guerin Prep on Thursday night by a final score of 6-0. Amber Voss opened up the scoring when Carolyn Richards found her open behind the defense in the 11th minute of play. Richards then got a tally of her own slotting a ball home off of a feed from Julie Michaelis. Richards found the net again just after the break when a Guerin player was called for handling the ball in the box. Richards stepped up and calmly dispatched the PK to the 'keepers left. Shortly after the penalty the Knights continued to pressure and were rewarded as a Michaelis cross was deflected into the goal by a Guerin defender. Still not satisfied the Knights continued the pressure and this time Michaelis found an open Megan Wise who headed past the 'keeper. The pick of the bunch closed out the scoring as Wise returned the favor to Michaelis. Wise found Michaelis in behind the Guerin defense and after taking a controlling touch Michaelis rifled a shot past from 30 yards out into the back netting. The Lady Knights are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in SCC play.

Lockport improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Southwest Suburban Conference play by defeating Lincoln Way Central 2-0 in Lockport on Thursday afternoon. The Porters controlled the first half and opened the scoring when junior Julie Divita scored on a volley from 8 yards out off a cross from senior captain Cassie Pullia. Pullia helped set up the Porters second goal with sophomore Allie Brehm heading in a corner kick. Sopomore Jenny Meyer earned the shutout making 6 saves on day. The Porter defense of Lauren Labonauskas, Brynn Feeley, Hannan Pilch, Leah Plescia, Julie Divita, and Sam Spencer all had great efforts in helping shut down the Knights attack.

Naperville Central (4-3-2) lost 2-1 to Schaumburg in opening-round play of St. Charles East's Augsburg-Drach Invite. Nicoole Ramberg scored for the Redhawks and keeper Jill D'Amico made 12 saves in the loss. In a second-round game against host St. Charles East on Thursday the Redhawks gave up an own-goal before tying the game on a Maddie Thompson goal off a Kristen Adams assist in the second half, but the Saints (3-1-1) earned a 2-1 win on an Allie Arvizu goal with six minutes left in regulation. D'Amico had three saves in the loss for the Redhawks.

Barrington (4-1) won 4-2 over Hoffman Estates in an MSL contest on Wednesday, getting goals from Elli Ackerman, Sara Condon, Emmelie Hirdes, and Emily Hyde, two assists from Mia Calamari, and an assist apiece from Gabby McLaurin and Catie Curran.

Plainfield Central (1-2-1) won 3-0 over Walter Payton Prep in a Pepsi Showdown opener on Tuesday, getting goals from Julie Tamayo, Britney Lenza, and Lauren Kulaga in Plainfield.

West Chicago (6-2-1) got three goals from Bianca Navejas and a goal apiece from Meagan Radloff, Andie Lazzerini, Devon Orr, and Katie Becker in a 7-1 win over Larkin on Monday.

Lyons Township (4-1-1) tied 1-1 with Lake Forest in opening-round action of the Pepsi Showdown, with Kelsey Holbert scoring off a feed from Lauren Moberg.

Crystal Lake South (3-3-2, 2-0) got second-half goals from Alex Romano and Cella Albuquerque to win 2-0 over Fox Valley Conference rival Cary-Grove (5-5, 2-1) in Cary on Tuesday. Kali Loescher and Audrey Collard assisted on Romano's score while Lauren Perrine got the helper on Albuquerque's goal. South keeper Elizabeth Quinn had six saves in the Gators' third consecutive shutout while Cary-Grove's Krystal Felderman finished with two saves on the night.

Wheaton Warrenville South (3-1, 1-0) won 1-0 over visiting Glenbard East (2-2-2, 0-1) in a DVC contest in Wheaton on Tuesday. The Tigers' Kate Fowee netted the game's lone goal in the 77th minute for the win. South keeper Kelsey Graham had one save while East's Veronica Fairbairn saved 11 in the loss.

Naperville Central (4-1-1, 1-0) won 2-0 over West Aurora (2-4, 0-2) in a DVC contest on Tuesday, getting a goal from Katherine Short on assists from Nicole Ramberg and Sabrina Cisneros in the second half, and a second goal from Veronica Ellis in Naperville. Jill Smolinski had three saves in net for the Redhawks and made a big stop with 13 minutes left in the contest and Central holding a 1-0 lead.

Geneva (3-1-1, 1-0-1) won 8-0 over Larkin in an Upstate Eight conference game Tuesday in Elgin. Amanda Lulek, Molly Axen and Catherine Allon scored two goals apiece for the Vikings, with goals also coming from Caitrin Griffin and Hope Goodman. Allon added an assist and Geneva got assists from Kailey Rote, Kristin Rodriguez, Ally Serra, and Michaela Loebel in the win.

Conant (5-0, 2-0) beat Hersey 1-0 Monday on a rebound goal by Kaitlin Chiero off of a Courtney Raetzman shot in the first half.  Lindsay Fillingim earned the shutout in goal.
